Beach to Beach
Bournemouth to Brighton, Beach to
Beach first took place over a weekend in early May 2010. The event
ran for 3 years to raise money for Asthma UK starting with 100
riders and steadily growing in numbers to 300 by the final event in
2012. The event was a 2 day fundraising cycle ride over a total of
140 miles across Southern England. It started at Bournemouth AFC
and finished on the beach in Brighton, with an overnight camp in
between at Meon Springs in the midst of the Hampshire
Downs.
Along the way, the journey took in
some of southern Britain's most spectacular scenery, heading
inland through the New
Forest on day one then across the South Downs on day two
culminating in a tough but beautiful climb up Devils Dyke
for the reward of wonderful views across the English Channel. From
there it was a 7mile downhill ride to the finish!
Pennine Events organised all aspects
of the event. This included designing the route, arranging the
overnight campsite, providing all of the tents and catering
services, fully signing the route, providing comprehensive route
support services, mechanics on tap throughout the weekend,
providing baggage transfers and arranging return transport back to
Bournemouth. We also provided pre-event training tips and
advice.
All participants received an Asthma
UK T-shirt plus a fundraising pack, regular team newsletters, tips
and advice on training, support from the team at the event itself,
and a post-event reception. The route itself had clear signage,
mechanical support and regular feeding stations.
Client
Asthma UK approached Pennine Events
to organise this event. Their aims were to use the event as a way
of raising funds for the charity as well as encouraging those with
Asthma to take part in physical activity with other like minded
people and people with similar health issues.
