500 smiling, pink pedalling ladies brought colour and laughter to the beautiful Lee Valley Country Park as they rode around raising money for Breast Cancer Campaign. Despite losing an hour’s sleep as the clocks jumped forward to Spring, at least the spring-like weather came along too and got some of us down to t-shirts and sunglasses. A smooth, successful start to our Spring programme. Next stop on the Pedal it Pink tour is Liverpool on 18th April. Let’s see if the ladies of Liverpool can come out in the same numbers and style.

‘Friends of a Beautiful Blonde’ cycle in pink to beat breast cancer

A group of friends from Hertford who called themselves ‘Friends of a Beautiful Blonde’, joined the 500 women to cycle up to 29 miles around River Lee Country Park in memory of a close friend who sadly passed away from metastatic malignant melanoma. The team finished the course in three hours and raised more than £3,000 to help fund vital breast cancer research.

Jill Murray, 37, said afterwards: “We all had a fantastic time and the weather was superb. It was a great atmosphere and good to see everyone cycling in pink for this good cause. The family of our dear friend who sadly passed away from metastatic melanoma recently (the beautiful blonde) came to cheer us one so it was really moving seeing them there.”

Pedal it Pink Details

Pedal it Pink has a variety of cycle routes to choose from so there is something to suit all abilities. Beginners can opt for the family 5K lap (which is also open to the men and children in your life) and those wishing to push themselves that little bit further can select either a half (13.1miles) or full (26.2miles) marathon distance. All routes are completely enclosed in the park, so it’s safe, traffic-free and suitable for all existing and aspiring cyclists.

Cycling is a great form of cardiovascular exercise, which helps to burn fat and if done regularly contributes to a healthy lifestyle. Cycling is also great for toning leg muscles and can burn up to 500 calories an hour.
