A cracking, sunny start to our summer cycling programme with this new event exclusively for women! Over 700 participants, most wearing Pink (including some outlandish costumes…) took part on this traffic-free ride in and around Sefton Park, Liverpool. It was organised on behalf of Breast Cancer Campaign. Olympic and World Champion Victoria Pendleton got the rides underway and then rode with her mother. There was the choice of a 5k Family Lap, a half-marathon (13.1miles) or full-marathon (26.2miles). Following this success more are planned around the country latter this year and next Spring.

An informative and fun roadshow combining the unique Pennine Events Cycle-Smoothie Maker with an extensive range of free literature, route guides, giveaways, maps and travel leaflets staffed by cycling and travel experts, who can also provide free cycle checks. A great way to learn more about all aspects of cycling and the health benefits it can bring you. You can also pedal yourself to a great, fresh, tasty and healthy free smoothie!

Pennine Events devised and operate the roadshow on behalf of Lancashire County Council and Travelwise. It visits town centres, events and workplaces around the county throughout the summer

Pennine Events took its cycle road show to the launch event of Chester City Council’s status as a ‘Cycling Demonstration Town’.
Chester is one of 17 towns across the country nominated for a share of £100 million in Government funding under the ‘Cycling Demonstration Towns Project’ that aims to enable cycling to become a genuine option for people to travel around the towns and city in future.

Over 400 people took part in this new fundraising cycle event, on behalf of the Leukaemia Research Fund. We had a couple of attractive routes (26mile and 13mile) around the North Lanarkshire Countryside from Drumpellier Country Park. There was also a children’s guided fun ride around the Loch within the country park.

Part of the biggest ever mass-participation cycling event to hit the UK, we put on a challenging route through the Peak District enjoyed by over 700 cyclists, including F1 star Mark Webber and former England footballer Geoff Thomas.

The 100mile route took in the best of the Derbyshire Dales, Peak District and Staffordshire countryside, on a tough but beautiful circuit passing by places such as Carsington Water, Parwich, Hartington, the Manifold Valley, Ilam and Longford.

There was also a 67mile option.

Two of world cycling’s top stars stole the Show in this brand new event with an awesome display of power riding. David Millar and Garmin team-mate Cameron Mayer put their recent endeavours in the Giro d’Italia to good use by simply riding away from the best home-based pros on this exciting but tough technical course in the heart of Edinburgh’s vibrant Grassmarket district.

Following right on the heels of Edinburgh was this, the second in the successful Nocturne Series.

A record crowd of over 9,000 people witnessed a compelling evening of top-class racing action, along with some more fun activities. The Folding Bike Race and Fixie Longest Skid competition whipping up the excitement and setting the scene for the top pro’s, including Rob Hayles, Russell Downing and Olympic Gold Medallist Ed Clancy to shine in the fading daylight. An awesome average speed in excess of 27mph culminated in a bunch sprint shaded by Russell Downing.

On a wonderful sunny day in the heart of Southport on Lord St we brought a fantastic range of cycling entertainment, activities, displays and top cycle-stunt entertainment to complement the Tour Series Crit later that evening.
We had a colourful and amusing collection of bikes and riders on the fun ride around the Race Circuit from Penny Farthings to minibikes, unicyclists to pedalling clowns.

As part of Bike Week we designed a roadshow to enthuse and educate children about the possibilities and benefits of cycling, through classroom based activities including Cycle-Smoothie Making andComputrainer. It visited 5 schools across Blackburn and Darwen getting hundreds of children pedalling away and received great feedback from the teachers. We are now exploring a year-round programme.

We had over 4,000 riders in this, the biggest cycle ride in the East Midlands. Lovely warm weather and attractive, fairly flat routes around the Nottinghamshire countryside.
There were four different types of rides all of which started and finished at the National Water Sports Centre, Holme Pierrepont.

Entertaining, enthusing and educating people of all ages about the possibilities and benefits of cycling through the unique combination of a cycle training and education programmes delivered in schools during the week and public road shows at weekends. The public roadshows are in Penzance (28th June), Falmouth (4th July) and Truro (11th July).

Several hundred visitors picked up a host of cycling tips, saw stunning displays of stunt biking from World Champs Ben Slinger, made smoothies by pedal power and joined in a fun ride along the Promenade to Cleveleys and back on another baking hot day.
This family-orientated event celebrated the opening of the Promenade for cyclists. A wonderful sight of over a hundred bikes riding along the prom.

A sea of bikes swamped Liverpool early on the Sunday morning as nearly 2,300 cyclists set off in the only cycle event in the country to include nearly 5miles underground!
Good weather conditions early on, notwithstanding the later showers, helped make it a very pleasant ride for this near record turnout.

The new sportive route around Delamere Forest drew plenty of praise from the fitter riders able to tackle the 85 miles in less than 7hours.

At the other end of the spectrum, over 60 people took part in the new family fun ride around Chester. Led by experienced cyclists, it showed them a very pleasant route around the fringe of the city, through the zoo and then across the centre and back out whilst barely touching a road. Riding alongside Giraffe’s was a bit bizarre!

The early rain passed away to leave a lovely sunny evening and the perfect backdrop for top class racing. The riders, including Olympic Gold Medallist Ed Clancy, former World Champion Rob Hayles and National Crit Champion Dean Downing, certainly didn’t disappoint given the crowd plenty to get excited about with non-stop attacking. Over 15,000 came along and took part in this unique walk under the famous river. Set on their way by Keith Chegwin and a host of Merseyside personalities and entertainers they helped Merseytravel celebrate the 75th anniversary of the opening of the iconic tunnel. A special parade of vintage vehicles opened proceedings with 3 limousine’s from the 1930’s stopping to collect the special VIP’s – octogenarians whose parent’s worked on the tunnel construction.

Emerging at the finish site at Kings Square the participants then enjoyed a host of entertainment from Pick and Mix Circus, Bruce Airhead, Liverpool Lantern Company, Wirral Taiko Drum Band and a host of others, alongside a fairground and the displays of vintage vehicles. A special ferry service then took them back to Liverpool.

All income and proceeds from the event went to Claire House Hospice and it is expected the final total will exceed £50,000.

A day similar to Colne with cloudless skies and a dry circuit giving the best of British cyclists the chance to demonstrate their power and technique. In his last race as National Champion Dean Downing got into an early break with Graham Briggs and between them they forged a gap that lasted the race. Coming out of the final corner Dean was in the better position and took the winner’s cheque.

The crowd were also able to enjoy making a free cycle smoothie and try out the computrainer courtesy of our mini cycle roadshow.

The Blackpool Nocturne will be an amazing circuit for all involved. The main event will be the Elite Criterium, as well as other races including the Folding Bike race and the Youth Event. read more

One of the most beautiful and traffic-free rides around. Its gentle name belies a very challenging Sportive ride around the beautiful Pendle, Ribble Valley, Lune Valley and Bowland countryside. It included many of the climbs tackled by pro riders on the Tour of Britain, Kellogg's Tour and Tour of Lancashire races. The event also included the Pendle Cycle Show featuring try-outs, entertainers and displays.

The penultimate round of the Premier Calendar, British Cycling’s National Road Race Series. Held over a beautiful circuit around Pendle Hill with a finishing circuit around the town of Nelson.

The Right to Play Edinburgh to London ride was a fantastic and rewarding challenge that took 100 cyclists from one great capital city to another, and along coasts, over green hills, and through national parks on the way.

The money raised will mean that 6,700 children in developing areas will be sheltered from AIDS, Malaria and War. Right to Play programmes will not only ensure these children are protected but that they are taught skills such as numeracy, literacy and co-operation so they can create a better future for themselves.

Another record-breaking entry with just over 7000 participants riding the 52 miles from Glasgow Green to Edinburgh, keeping it the biggest bike ride in Scotland. Recently won the Best Event in Scotland Award.

The stars and the sun came out for our final Elite Series race of the summer! Straight from racing nearly 1000 miles in the Tour of Britain the likes of Olympic Gold Medallist Ed Clancy, former World Champion Rob Hayles and National Champion Dean Downing wowed the crowds basking in the sun with an impressive display of all-out racing. However they were no match for Graham Briggs who rode like a man possessed and trounced the field over the 1km long circuit in the heart of the city. By the end he had managed to lap everyone! Rob Partridge and Rob Hayles clinched the other two podium places. 4th place though was good enough to see Dean Downing clinch the National Elite Series title.

Besides the racing, which also included a hard-fought Support race and Youth races, there were plenty of cycling activities for the crowds to take part in and enjoy.

Bradford City Run Website

The ten-miler was a 'taster' race for the Bradford Marathon which will take place a year later in 2010. This will be a unique marathon that will involve the participants running five loops like the Olympic circles. The two loops of the Bradford City Run will be two out of those five loops.

The Night of Neon was a combination of events that offers something for everyone to enjoy.

Nottingham's National Water Sports Centre, Holme Pierrpont

The ladies cycled a marathon (26.2 miles) or half marathon (13.1 miles) and help raise funds to beat breast cancer.

There was also an opportunity to get the men and children in your life involved in the family 5K lap. The route was safe, traffic-free and suitable for all existing and aspiring cyclists.
