A wet Autumnal Saturday night on Salford Quays was
lit up by over 400 neon clad walkers raising money for
The Christie at the Night of Neon, which Pennine
Events organised on behalf of the highly respected
charity.
The evening began with a packed entertainment programme
featuring local singer/songwriter Olly Jacob followed by
Tommy Dobson and The Wonder Years, the Virgin Active
Crew and the PE Teachers of the Bread & Butter Company.
The latter got the walkers warmed up, sides splitting
and ready for the off.
All of the walkers completed 2 laps of a picturesque
route we had designed through the architectural
landmarks of Salford Quays. Starting from outside The
Lowry Theatre they passed by Old Trafford, The Imperial
War Museum and the stunning new Media City in high and
bright spirits – we don’t think there’s ever been so
much loud, bright clothing on display in one place
before - and didn't let the wet conditions dampen their
enthusiasm. A grand finale of fire juggling, more music
from Tommy Dobson and The Wonder Years and Bread &
Butter in the guise of School Dinner Ladies welcomed the
walkers into the finish, ensuring the event shone right
through to the end.
