Great Manchester Cycle Ride
A brand new cycling event in Manchester from Nova
International. Pennine Events have been tasked with
providing consultation for the event.
The multi-distance event will be the first mass
participation urban bike ride taking place on completely
closed roads in an otherwise bustling city centre,
including a stretch of Manchester’s busiest motorway –
the iconic Mancunian way.
Starting and finishing at Eastlands, the course will
take you through the districts of Manchester, Trafford
and Salford. The urban terrain provides access to
roads normally strictly off limits to cyclists, giving
you a new perspective on the iconic buildings and
landscapes of Greater Manchester.
Rebecca Romero, the current Olympic Champion in
cycling’s 3k individual pursuit, has hailed the
introduction of the Great Manchester Cycle event as a
major boost for the sport at the launch of the event.
The event has three distance options, setting off in
waves from 08:00 - giving you the option to Get
Out and Pedal over 13 miles, Rule
the Roads over 26 miles or Test
Yourself over 52 miles. Suitable for all ages and
abilities.
At the launch event below, Tony Audenshaw who plays the part of
Bob Hope in TV soap Emmerdale, trys out the virtual
Computrainer Great Cycle Ride, whilst Rebecca Romero
looks on.
Part of a ‘Great’ festival of sport in Manchester
this summer, the Great Manchester Cycle will join a full
programme that includes the UK’s most popular 10k, the
Bupa Great Manchester Run and the British Gas Great
Manchester Swim.
Entry fee includes; accurate chip timing, a Great
Manchester Cycle T-shirt, medal and finishers pack.
There will also be a feed station on course to keep you
hydrated and your energy levels topped up.

Blood cancer charity Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research,
are supporting the Great Manchester Cycle.
Every 20 minutes someone in the UK is diagnosed with
a blood cancer such as leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma.
Survival from childhood leukaemia is now more than 90%.
But survival for adults is on average just 50%. And
treatments for all ages are still harsh. Cathy Gilman,
Chief Executive of Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research says:
"It's great to see Manchester hosting this major cycling
event and we are excited to be part of it. We hope
people will support us at the Great Manchester Cycle and
be part of our team that won't stop until we've beaten
blood cancer."
Entries for the Great Manchester Cycle are now open at
www.greatcycle.org
and will be accepted on a first come, first served
basis.
