Following the success of last year,
we once again brought our acclaimed Cycle Show to
Southport Town Centre as part of a day of major cycling
activities, including the Tour Crit Series.
Folding Bike Race
Our activities
included
side-splitting entertainment from the Bread & Butter
Company, making smoothies through pedal power, circus
skills workshops, cycle parades along Lord St (closed
to traffic), cycle try-outs and stunt displays.
The festival opened
with a Bike Parade down the town's closed high street.
We also had an inter-schools race, with hundreds of
children entering, many racing for the first time. The
children were enthused about cyling and the winners were
all awarded with yellow jerseys and shields.
The festival was sponsored by
Shelter Solutions, run by John Massie and Colin Barber,
whose company manufactures cycle shelters.
Colin said: “It is a great thing if you can get children
to cycle to school and this event will help them.”
John added: “The young ones were so enthusiastic. It is
the event’s second year and if it continues there is no
knowing how much interest it will create.”
In the evening Southport, hosted the Halford Tour Crit
Series, which was won by Alexandra Blaine from Endura,
but wasn't enough to prevent Motorpoint - Marshalls
Pasta from retaining their lead of the Tour Series.
