Record breaking number of cyclists pedal under the
Mersey Tunnel on the Biggest Liverpool Chester Bike ride
ever!
Our longest running event, now in its 17th year was a great success.
Over 2500 riders joined in the only cycle event
in the country to include nearly 5 miles
underground!
The biggest bike ride in Merseyside, this year
featured four different distances which were
accessible to all. This year we had the most number
of entrants, with over 200 signing up on the day as
well, despite the rainy forecast and foreboding
clouds.
Everyone started in Liverpool and had the unique
and exclusive use of the Queensway Tunnel.
Cyclists chose from:
- Liverpool Chester: 30mile ride from Liverpool,
through the tunnel and countryside to Cheste
- Liverpool Chester Liverpool: 54mile ride as above and
returning back to Liverpool
- Wirral Circular: 25mile round trip back to Liverpool
through the Wirral countryside
- Sportive: a 90mile challenging ride from Liverpool
through the Delamere Forest
BBC Radio Liverpool where there on the day
commentating and cheering the cyclists along.
The ride was supported by Liverpool PCT, Active City
and Merseytravel.
Pennine Events provided full ride
participant support services, with refreshments,
bike repair service, mini-bus return for riders unable
to complete the ride as well as a free
t-shirt.
Participants were also captured on camera throughout
the day and photographs can be viewed and purchased at
