The second of the National
Elite Series races we
organise, this one took
place in the heart of
Blackburn City Centre.
Intense competition from the
strong line-up, coupled with
rain and a highly technical
course, resulted in a great
race.
Elite Race
With the very best of the
UK's cyclists congregating
in Blackburn, the spotlight
was on Lancashire yet again,
following on from the Colne
Grand Prix and the National
Road Race Championships
earlier this month.
British Circuit Race
Champion, Ed Clancy
(Motorpoint/Marshals Pasta),
was the winner in the latest
round of the Elite Circuit
Series. At the starting
line, Clancy was in third
place overall in the series
and committed to the race
from that start, beating off
stiff competition from the
strong Rapha team.
Ed Clancy, winner of
Blackburn Grand Prix,
pictured here at Colne
Graham Briggs (Rapha
Condor Sharp), returned to
racing last night after
being ill, and challenged
Clancy throughout. The race
started dry and clear, but
as so often happens this
summer, the rain returned,
with the cobble corners
testing the riders to their
limits. Briggs threw himself
round the corners in the
last laps, despite the rain,
prompting Clancy to throw
caution to the wind on the
corners as well. Both stayed
the course, with Clancy
taking the race ahead of
Briggs, closely followed by
his teammate Dean Downing.
Other riders were not so
fortunate with the rainy
conditions, with a number
coming off during the race.

out spectacularly during the
senior race. (Lancashire
