Honoured to be involved and blown away by the efforts and achievements of cyclists and fundraisers, Pennine Events look back on Break the Cycle.
Over £700,000 was raised on Sunday 5th September 2021 in Social Bites’ event ‘Break the Cycle’ a 60-mile cycle from Glasgow to Edinburgh, led by Sir Chris and followed by hundreds of fundraising cyclists, raising money to build two new homeless villages.
Josh Littlejohn, founder of Social Bite said in a Big Issue article:
“The money that we raise from this fundraising campaign will allow these plans to become a reality and enable us to develop communities that will have a transformative impact on people’s lives.”
Social bite has previously carried out ‘The Big Sleep Out’ events where thousands of people camped out and raised money to help reduce homelessness across the UK. This year, Social Bite and Pennine Events teamed up and delivered the first ever ‘Break the Cycle’ event, an event that is now set to become an annual fixture.
While Pennine events worked behind the scenes to provide the route and traffic management, baggage transfers and on route support and signage to make the day run as smoothly and successfully as possible, Social Bite, Sir Chris Hoy and Mr Motivator worked on the front line to raise awareness, boost moral and support the incredible cyclists riding the challenging route. It was an absolutely incredible day to be apart of for an even more incredible cause and we can’t wait to do it all again next year! Even Sir Chris Hoy said it was one of the best organised events he had ever been apart of!
