Over 700 runners took advantage of the closed roads
on Sunday 2nd October by running the 3rd Bradford half
marathon. Runners were waved off at 9.00am onto a
traffic free route that took in some of Bradford’s best
scenery and hills, and finally finished within Lister
Park, where runners were welcomed home by the famous
Bread and Butter Theatre Company, and their ‘Dinner
Ladies’ antics.
The 1/2 marathon was officially started by the Lord
Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Naveeda Ikram from the
city centre and ended in Lister Park in Manningham.
There were also over 100 who took part in the Fun Run,
which was also traffic free and completely within Lister
Park. Runners ran as many laps as they could between
9.00am-10.00am around Lister Park on Sunday.
Andy Ross, Bradford Council Leisure Programmes Manager,
said: "This year's event was enjoyed by many runners and
I'd like to offer congratulations to everyone who took
part. The day was great fun for all involved – and
thankfully the weather was slightly cooler than it has
been of late!"
Winning man, Stephen Broadbent (who came second last
year) took the top spot in 1:15:47, while the female
winner was Jo Buckley with a time of 01.27.11. Both were
presented with their trophies, prize vouchers and a
bottle of bubbly by the Lord Mayor. A big thank you must
go to all who took part with many raising funds for
charitable causes.
