PRESS RELEASE

VICTORIOUS OLYMPIC RIDERS WELCOME NEWS TO LOCAL PEOPLE

As the country celebrates the fantastic winning British Olympic Racing Team in Beijing, people in the North West of England will be particularly interested in the team's success.

For, many members of the team have raced in a variety of cycling events in the region.

Chris Newton, Paul Manning and Bradley Wiggins have all taken part in the Colne Grand Prix and the gruelling 84-mile Tour of Pendle races in recent years, whilst triple gold-medallist Chris Hoy and Victoria Pendleton raced against each other in a special sprint competition in Barnoldswick as part of the Pendle Cycle Fest.

Steven Burke from Colne, who collected a tremendous bronze in his first Olympics, has always been a good supporter of the local festival too.

Organisers of these events, Pennine Events Limited, based in Barnoldswick and Wigan, have added their ‘congratulations' to the GB cycling team for its success in China.

Mark Sandamas, Director of Pennine Events, said: “These riders have done so much over the last few years to ignite people's interested in the sport of cycling and road racing in the North West that I am sure people in the region will feel particularly pleased that the GB Team has done so well in the Olympic Games.

“It's a marvellous spectacle and I am sure the success of these riders will encourage more people from our region to take up cycling and enjoy its many benefits.”
