Sunday 20 June saw over 4,000 people roll up with their bicycles for the biggest bike ride in Nottingham.

This year was the 29th Great Nottinghamshire Bike Ride and Pennine Events were again delighted to be involved in the organisation of this great event.

Once again there was a choice of four different types of rides, all of which started and finished at the National Water Sports Centre, Holme Pierrepont.

  • Sportive 75 mile ride

  • 50 mile ride

  • 18 mile ride

  • Family Ride - a ride for young cyclists and families on a closed circuit around the Regatta Lake

As a nice twist, the event took place on  Father’s day, with many families coming along to enjoy Father's Day together, whether cycling or spectating. The event also attracted amateur and pro-cyclists tackling the longer Sportive route and the 18mile and 50 mile ride.

Feedback from Participants

Joel Segal took part in the family lap challenge with his son, Isaac, aged seven.

"It’s a delight to be spending Father’s Day with my family, doing something that we all love. My wife, Katy, is out doing the 18-mile route with my other two sons, Jack (13) and Tom (11), and, as a family, we take part in the event each year. In the past, I’ve done the 18-mile ride with the rest of the family, with Isaac in a child bike seat, but now he’s a bit older he’s got the cycling bug too and wanted to ride himself today.

"It’s great that the event caters for all ages and abilities, with a ride to suit everyone so that we can still take part together. Health and exercise is really important to us, as is doing things as a family, which is essential to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. And the icing on the cake is that the Great Nottinghamshire Bike Ride is a really fun day out.”

Feedback from Nottinghamshire County Council

Councillor John Cottee, Cabinet Member for Culture and Community at Nottinghamshire County Council, said:

"This year's Great Nottinghamshire Bike Ride was a great success. Thousands of people from the county and further afield took part and even the weather was fine. We are now collecting in the sponsorship money for the event charities and hope to raise even more than the £50,000 we collected last year.”
